BIRD WATCHING

"The bird of paradise alights only upon the hand that does not grasp." - John Berry

Coorg is one of the 34 environmental hot-spots of the world boasting of a rich bio-diversity. Since it lies in the Western Ghats in the path of the South-West monsoon, it gets just the right amount of rain and nourishment to support a thriving population of rare species of birds and invite others during the migration season.

Of the 2060 species of birds that the Indian subcontinent provides home for, 25% of them are found in Coorg alone. So for all you bird-watching fanatics out there, grab a pair of binoculars, bring along a book and pencil for sketching and notes, wear dull colored clothes so as to not get noticed and enjoy long walks in the rambling beautiful paths and watch the bright-feathered treasures who are preening for you.
